Comments

Even though Ohio does not use the administrative sections of the I-codes, this is a standard that is reference in it’s entirety and we should look at provisions of Chapter 1.

Impact

FG1-06/07

AS

Clarifies the fact in Chapter 1 that there is often utility piping inside the building and in this case the code only apply to certain specific things.

Very Little

FG2-06/07

AM

I would recommend adding the words “listed and labeled” before appliances.

Coordination of codes.

FG3-06/07

D

102.11 Confusing. I do not agree that all I-codes must have the same administrative sections.

Nothing added

FG4-06/07

D

It scares me to allow the usage of “other Nationally recognized safety standards, as approved”. We have a specific standards approval process in Ohio .

Would give a blank check to standards that have not been reviewed

FG5-06/07

D

Simply to provide correlation with other codes does not justify this or any other change. Each change should stand on it’s own merit for the specific code it is in.

Nothing added

FG6-06/07

D

See FG3 & FG5 above

Nothing added

FG7-06/07

D

We should not and do not have this authority in Ohio

Inconsistent enforcement probability

FG8-06/07

D

This has significant added text to the permit process. Again it is an effort to have the same verbiage for all codes in the administrative section.

Sections like this make me thankful we do not use the administrative sections from ICC!

FG9-06/07

D

See FG8

FG10-06/07

D

See FG8

FG11-06/07

D

This section addresses installations that are temporary in nature. It is a new section.

I think we already have this authority.

FG12-06/07

AS

This is a good change

Helps to clarify the appliance/equipment definitions.

FG13-06/07

AS

This defines terms used in the code.

Consistent with IMC

FG14-06/07

AS

These devices are used by utilities instead of shut off valves at the street

Defines a device commonly used

FG15-06/07

AS

Adds water heaters as well as boilers to the volume requirement of the room.

Presently not defined.

FG16-06/07

D

Ohio cannot use this section for approval of unlisted equipment.

FG17-06/07

D

This change would allow appliances to be located in other closets such linen closets, etc.

Fire hazard

FG18-06/07

AM

We need to add “outdoors” to clarify that the impact protection must be provided inside the building even for “lawn Maintenance equipment”.

Obviously this proposal comes from some enforcement somewhere.

FG19-06/07

AS

Addresses areas that are not addressed in this code. These were clearly covered when gas appliances were a part of the mechanical code.

Good change!

FG20-06/07

AS

This modification is more practical than the present code language.

Good Change!

FG21-06/07

AS

This has been common practice for years.

No problem with this change.

FG22-06/07

D

As worded, I think this opens doors for potential safety concerns.

Safety concerns

FG23-06/07

AS

The existing language could be a potential safety hazard if applied literally.

Addresses potential safety issues

FG24-06/07

AS

Addresses redundant language.

Cleans up code

FG25-06/07

AS

Completes the thought in FG24.

Cleans up code

FG26-06/07

D

In favor of 25 above.

FG27-06/07

AS

This is a practical application of materials

Outdoor application should pose no safety issues.

FG28-06/07

AS

Good change if standard holds up to review.

Clarification of wording

FG29-06/07

AS

Most listed devices (eg valves have reduced area.)

Any issues that result are already being addressed in system design.

FG30-06/07

AS

I see more justification for this change than the proponent listed. Often the shut off valve is better placed after the trap.

No safety issues

FG31-06/07

D

In favor of FG31 above.

FG32-06/07

D

In favor of FG33

FG33-06/07

AS

Cleans up language that is applied many different ways.

Easier application of this code section

FG34-06/07

AM

I would recommend that a valve be placed within 6 feet of the gas outlets for each table, bench or hood. As worded, one shutoff by the egress door is all that is required for the entire lab. What if there are two egress doors?

Good proposal if location of the valves is addressed.

FG35-06/07

AS

We now have the potential for plastic piping being used for vent piping

Good addition to code. Safety issue.

FG36-06/07

D

This should already be done under present code

(listing) Redundant

FG37-06/07

D

This should be placed with the shutoff valves, not regulators.

Wrong location in the code.

FG38-06/07

D

This should already be done under present code

(listing) Redundant

FG39-06/07

AS

See proponent’s reason.

Practical change

FG40-06/07

AM

Delete proposed exception #1, keep #2 prefer 41

#2 practical change.

FG41-06/07

AS

Addresses issues presented in #40, but expands to allow for the safe use of other connector means.

Good change

FG42-06/07

D

Not necessary if installed in accordance with listing and manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Adds unnecessary and often requirements that are not practical

FG43-06/07

?

I don’t know if we should regulate the connections to portable appliances downstream of the shutoff valves.

FG44-06/07

AS

Section needed to address appliance service, replacement and removal

Common practice, but needs to be stated.

FG45-06/07

AS

Includes reference to existing requirements in this section.

Additional reference to existing code requirements.

FG46-06/07

AS

Much better format

Clarifies intent

FG47-06/07

D

Part of listing and manufacturer’s installation instructions. There are listed supports for this, not just “wire”.

Could conflict with listing

FG48-06/07

AS

Good safety proposal.

See reason

FG49-06/07

AS

Corrects an error in the code.

Life safety issue

FG50-06/07

AS

Good addition if standard withstands review.

Needed standard

FG51-06/07

D

Safety devices are required as a part of the listing. This should be addressed at the manufacturer’s level.

Not necessary

FG52-06/07

?

Not sure we could enforce this one.

FG53-06/07

D

This does not address the possibility of burns resulting from the elevated temperatures in the front of the appliance.

Right idea, needs some work.

FG54-06/07

AS

Safety issue

Safety issue

FG55-06/07

D

Standards should be added when referred to by a code section.

Not usable

FG56-06/07

AS

Important to use current information.

Updates critical. Often contain new technology.
